The Boston Public Gardens were designed by Frederick Law Olmsted (1822-1903) as part of the Emerald Necklace. Olmsted, a prominent landscape architect, social activist, and conservationist, also designed Central Park and was crucial in preserving Adirondack National Park and Niagara Falls.
